Allow multiple WordPress.com accounts

Right now a user can only log in to one WordPress.com account. Multiple apps (Instagram/Google+/Twitter) allow users to log in to multiple accounts. Maybe if the demand is high enough we can start working on it.

Here is the second demand... Would be really helpful if this would be possible! I just installed Jetpack cause I was told this could help me logging into multiple WP accounts/website at the same time and helping me remember multiple passwords, but I haven't found the sollution in Jetpack yet.

Third request here from a WordPress.com iOS user:

One is a business blog and the other personal. It would be nice to be able to with back and forth between accounts without having to sign in

A user noted in an app review that they want this feature:

Vad hände med att ha flera konton och kunna växla mellan? Lägger jag nu till mitt andra konto (+, På egen server) så försvinner den första :( :(

Translation:

What happened to have multiple accounts and switch between? Do I now to my other account (, on your own server) will disappear the first :( :(

Note: Some users expect this to be an existing feature (as in this review) due to the issue resolved in #3401.

A user also left feedback (Ref: AppbotX 27023) requesting this feature:

I have two Wordpress sites but attached to different emails for business purposes. I'd like to be able to manage both from my phone but it'll only let me have one logged in at a time!

rachelmcr avatar Mar 16 '17 11:03 rachelmcr

Another user left feedback (Ref: AppbotX 27248) requesting an easier way to switch between accounts:

I used to be able to login from one account to the other with ease on the app. That's no longer the case.

Hmm, @rachelmcr do you know what the user meant by this? We definitely never supported multiple accounts ever.

kwonye avatar Mar 27 '17 16:03 kwonye

We accidentally allowed users to log in to multiple accounts in the past (see #3401, #5042) and whenever I have talked to users about being able to do this previously this is what they were referring to.

rachelmcr avatar Mar 27 '17 17:03 rachelmcr

We received another feedback (Ref: AppbotX 27560) requesting easier switching between WordPress.com accounts:

Allow easier switching between different blogs assigned to different email addresses.

Another user left feedback (Ref: AppbotX 28328) requesting multiple account support:

Would love to be able to toggle between accounts and sites without signing out

rachelmcr avatar May 01 '17 10:05 rachelmcr

Another request from app feedback (Ref: AppbotX 28580):

I would love if we could add multiple accounts for different blogs with different email addresses.

rachelmcr avatar May 12 '17 17:05 rachelmcr

Another request from app feedback (Ref: AppbotX 28735):

I have more than one word press account, but I can only manage one through the mobile app. This is a real problem, because I have three separate blogs which are completely unrelated, but which I actively update on a regular basis. Being able to update all three of them – instead of just one - on the mobile app would be a huge improvement.

And a second feedback (Ref: AppbotX 28802).

rachelmcr avatar Jun 06 '17 10:06 rachelmcr

This came up again in support — the current behavior can cause confusion for users who try to add multiple WordPress.com sites from different accounts to the app, and end up just switching which account they are logged in to:

I would like to be able to switch between two blogs on my app, but when I try to add my second blog it deletes my first blog from the dashboard.

Joined github specifically to please request the feature or "accidental feature" as it were be brought back - hugely important to many of us who produce content for more than 1 wordpress blog.

@rachelmcr @catehstn @maxme I get weekly notifications about this... should we just implement it?

kwonye avatar Jun 29 '17 10:06 kwonye

It's a huge amount of work. Like it would be it's own separate project.

catehstn avatar Jun 29 '17 14:06 catehstn

It's definitely a highly requested feature, but I don't see how it fits with our current priorities.

There's also a workaround (inviting the same account as a member of each site allows you to manage multiple sites from a single account). An interim solution could be to highlight that option in-app if someone tries to add a site linked to a different WordPress.com account.

Another request for this (internal ref: 209501-h)

I've tried this now several times and it doesn't keep both logged in is it right that I have to re log in to each Account to switch between the two? It says my sites, add self hosted then as soon as I do it switches to the new one and deletes the other one

mattmiklic avatar Jul 31 '17 19:07 mattmiklic

Another request:

I have two different WordPress sites. They are under two different identities - my own name, and a pen name.

With only being allowed one "public display name" per account (not per site), people who want to keep two sites separate have no choice but to log out & in each time.

why can’t I have two or more accounts connected to my app at the same time? When I try to add another one it forgets the first and only lets me have one account at a time it seems. I try to log back into the first account and it removes the second. Please allow many logins at the same time like the Instagram app does.

Another request in 1742500-zen.

Hi. I wanted to have both my sites on the app. However they both have different email addresses. One if for university and one it’s a personal account. The app won’t let me have both running at the same time. Is there anyway I can solve this without having to sign in and out of each account every time I want to use them.

SiobhyB avatar Jan 25 '19 11:01 SiobhyB

Thanks, everyone! I think this is something we should tackle very soon.

From a 4-star review - "Great WP blogging app needs multiple account support" by Kiri Pawo – Sep 18, 2019 Version 13.2

FEATURE REQUEST: Multiple account sign-on. Please, let users with more than one WP account sign-in and stay logged in without having to switch accounts by logging out of the app. That’s the only missing feature in your otherwise fine app.

Another user noted that they'd really like this option in 2728499-zen.

SiobhyB avatar Feb 20 '20 11:02 SiobhyB

This was requested again in 2731752-zen.

Similar to the multiple account feature found in some social media platforms; twitter, instagram, etc. It would be nice to switch between my personal account and my business account right within the app.

From a four star review:

I’m a long time WordPress.com user. Love using it to build my websites and the iOS app is awesome! BUT the app is missing one pretty BIG feature... the ability to login with more than one (multiple) WordPress.com accounts and easily switch between them; much like the feature most social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, etc have. I would love to see this feature added to the iOS app as it’s long over due!
