Mint 18 / Ubuntu 16.04 weird flashes

Just upgraded a Mint machine to version 18, which is based on Ubuntu 16.04. While it still works with 5.11.2, it seems to be glitching when I pick a window or move it across the end of the screen boundary, like it's quickly flashing "black" then goes back to the previous color.
