Google-groups: "Cannot find number of threads."

Open Isles487 opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

Hello, compiled the latest version of UAT on arch linux, kernel 5.14.2, x86_64, curl 7.78.0-1, result is the same as compiled for a raspberry pi with curl 4. No matter the group I am trying, I am getting a "could not find number of threads!" error:

rec.games.video.sega nyc.general

etc.

It looks like they have dropped down the old method of retrieving data, and have replaced it with some javascript abomination. This utility will no longer work.

Thanks for your quick response.

Too bad about that, seems Google constantly moves backwards with its Usenet archives. It's unfortunate because what's available on archive.org is sometimes uneven, you find some posts on Google that aren't available elsewhere.

Currently it is no longer possible to even view the original message with its headers in the google groups UI. There is a "show original message" option, but it is grayed out with some mumbo-jumbo explanation about not having permissions to view email addresses. Yay!
