Could you try building jaxmpp with JDK1.8?

If the account is added and enabled it will connect automatically (and intent to remain in that state). If you don't want account to be connected then you disable it....

Those are all valid points and we are aware of those, hence stating *may* - we know the benefits of being able to set the status therefore we haven't removed...
