SOCKS proxy support
I really like what I've seen of the app so far but unfortunately there is nowhere to specify SOCKS proxy IP and port that I have found yet
Cannot set this at the system level, it should be in-app, and you could even do it by tab if you wanted since there is no additional work required or overhead when directing queries to a SOCKS server
This will allow you to use your browser with Tor.
That's great support, I see the option and am going to start testing it
I just tried sending you a few Euros for a coffee but PayPal is giving an error right at the final step
Will try again later, it says it's temporary on their status page, just wanted you to know it is appreciated
I've been using the first version you posted and it worked perfectly. I just completed the first donation as well as a thank you!
Not that it's important but it would look good to fill the dead space and in my opinion makes more sense being located here , but again , just a cosmetic thing
Thanks again for doing this, super useful app which already has a spot on the home screen of my device now!
Well done
yeah, will move it there
Released as V3.2
How are you dealing with the certificate issues? By installing the certificate of the proxy you set? How exactly do you use it with Tor?
I haven't encountered any certificate issues, it just works, .onion domains and everything are all working as intended as far as I can tell
And I've experimented with lots of things so far, toggling DOM options, JavaScript, and so on then visiting sites like coveryourtracks.eff.org to try and see what kind of different scores & results the browser will get
The only issue I've come across, and it's an issue in other browsers too, is that FREE Browser will report sites that are http:// only (no https support) as insecure when they are on .onion , however according to Tor, this is not considered insecure, and Tor Browser for Android does not give any such warning. I'd probably rather know than not know, so I don't blame FREE Browser for this
As far as using it with Tor goes it's very easy! Just spin up a Debian or Ubuntu VM or installation if you don't already have one, and
apt install tor
nano /etc/tor/torrc
add
SocksPort 9050
and save it then
systemctl restart tor
systemctl enable tor
Tor SOCKS5 proxy will then be listening on Port 9050 on whatever local IP you're using Then just enter that local IP:port combination in your proxy line in FREE Browser, confirm you're using Tor with https://check.torproject.org , as long as you pass the test, final step is to confirm you can access Hidden .onion services, so try DuckDuckGo https://duckduckgogg42xjoc72x3sjasowoarfbgcmvfimaftt6twagswzczad.onion
I'll get updated to 3.2, I didn't even try the middle version you posted as a followup yet because first one is still working great, a big thanks again for this!
Just a friendly FYI F-Droid is still at 3.1, I tried to auto-update through there as that's where I downloaded it originally
I deleted the app too hastily now I can't find the .apk anywhere for the new 3.2 version, oops
F-Droid will need a few days to build the new version
Do you have a compiled .apk available in the meantime? I haven't built one from source before
you can use the apk from above. I only moved the setting to the other location
