I think this option should be removed in favour of marking the log folder as compressed with NTFS. I just don't see a good solution because compression will never work...
Also you can't just remove gz altogether because people must be able to read their already compressed logs.
It's not something people have asked often about... or at all, beyond this ticket, if my memory serves me right.
