I observed a little more carefully today. I explicitly homed before printing (Prepare > Homing > Autohome). As expected, all 3 axes values on the display stopped blinking the "-?-"....

Good idea @thinkyhead. From the source code, it looks like the default is only 2 minutes. I'll try your suggestion later today.
