Symmetry?

Open embeh opened this issue 9 years ago • 9 comments

First of all, congratulations to the authors and thank you very much for providing such a nice application in addition to the paper!

Is there a way to encourage symmetry in the remeshed result? This would reduce the need for local adjustments by half and also result in a mesh that is much easier to process further downstream (e.g. rigging, skinning).

Again, great work!

Adding such a feature is conceptually straightforward but will involve quite a bit of engineering. It's not a priority for us right now, though we welcome external contributions.

+1 In the meantime it should work to split your mesh in half bring it into instant mesh, export, and then bring it back into your main 3d app, duplicate the one side and weld the two halves together. EDIT: Tried it and it didn't work how I expected :(

repeatedly +1 ing this ticket is not so helpful ;) -- if you would like this feature, please step up.

Hey, I would like this feature. I know that Modo can do symmetry based on x, y, z axis. What I think is adding the specify edges to as the axis and re-compute the position singularities. Is that a correct idea that I can implement this feature? thank you~

This maybe a before and after on this app. REALLY.

duplicating the mesh and set the scale on the y axis to >-1< will do the trick and then "weld" the vertices togetha !!! :P
