Contacts avatars not loading

On version 3.93 (4708), iPhone 12, iOS 15.2, the contacts avatar pictures do not show, only their initials.

This happens both in the contact list and the individual chats. It happens in all my accounts. I force-restarted the app and rebooted the device, nothing.
