Notification messages in Windows 10

Open ElvisPresly opened this issue 7 years ago • 11 comments

Hi, in Wire desktop version in the Windows system 10 pro there is a bug with notification messages.

In Windows 10 there was a remarkable center of notification messages. Which collects all notification messages in one place from different sources (mail, a chat and so on).

At the moment I see 2 problems:

Problem 1. Notification messages from Wire appear, but right there disappear. That is if I departed from the PC for some time and someone wrote me the message. When I return to the PC I won't see this message because labels in a tray at me are hidden, and at center of notification messages of the message disappeared.

Problem 2. To enter the Wire settings. Wire - Settings - Notification messages. There are such points: To show a name of the sender and the text of the message, to Show a name of the sender, to Hide message contents, it is switched off. All these settings not as don't influence if from to switch. If I select "To show a name of the sender and the text of the message" that in the notification message I don't see the sender and the text of the message.

Problem 1 maybe by design as Wire is developed with Privacy in mind, thus one does not want notification messages stuck on ones screen. Problem 2 this seems hard to understand [bear in mind I am not a windows user] thus i suggest taking some screenshots and posting them here and or setting out your description differently. Note that I am not a developer here, just commenting.

Problem 1. My opinion, notices have to be visible. The fact that you have told it nonsense)

Problem 2. Settings on this picture don't lead to change of appearance of notices: default

Problem 2: It is solved. Just settings are applied after application restarting. Though about it it isn't told anywhere.

Problem 1: urgent

Problem 2 floats, that is, isn't present. After restarting it appeared again.

great idea to make a video of that issue. I agree that the behaviour is not as should be expected and needs to be looked at by the developers working on Wire. Thus please take a look at @ElvisPresly video of this issue and see what can be done!

@ElvisPresley, can you set Wire to always appear in the system tray (not the overflow)? This might be a work around for now.

@ConorIA hi, of course I can. But it won't solve a problem, punishing exists. It can be only temporary solution. Especially I love when everything looks beautifully. This my personal judgement.

There is a related issue here: https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/3916.

That thread includes a possible workaround https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/3916#issuecomment-250439021.

There are also a couple of apps mentioned whose code might provide a hint for the Wire devs.

@ConorIA I switched this slider, but notification messages all the same disappear

Just jumping in here to pose a question: could it be possible to incorporate a simple popup notification similar to the one Thunderbird uses? For those unfamiliar, when Thunderbird receives a new email, it has a popup in the bottom right corner (independent of Windows in-built notification system). The initial popup holds for a few seconds then fades out (so it's not overly intrusive). After the popup is gone, the Thunderbird icon remains on the system tray and if you click on it, the notification pops up again. This, in combination with setting the Wire icon to be always visible on the taskbar (with its red dot to indicate new message) would really make it more user friendly on Windows desktop.
