windows desktop wire won't launch on startup, even though option is checked

Wire version: windows 3.26.4124 Operating system: windows 10 21h1 Which antivirus software do you have installed: avast free

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. on the menu, under wire, select launch wire on startup
2. when i go home, i shut down my pc
3. next time i start up, wire doesn't launch and when i look at the setting, launch wire on startup is unchecked, again.

What is the expected result?

wire launches on startup and the launch at startup is still checked

What is the actual result?

wire doesn't launch on startup, and the launch at startup is unchecked, again

i've browsed around in the wire appdata folder, looking for a text config file that might contain the configuration. but with no luck. i also tried shutting down wire and restarting without rebooting, and the launch wire on startup remains checked.
