How to reproduce?

One of my conversatoin would spin forever and not load the content

closed off Wire.

when opened again it asked to login,

(possibly similar to my upgrade path issue? #2114)

I didn't reinstall anything, got logged out, I tried logging via phone number, then everything was gone.

Wasn't either able to find where in the file system the history was.

@Transisto please note your operating system, version, and wire app build

Second this. Whole message history of a complete year lost which has thousands of important messages. Occasional crashes can be expected but these type of completely lost messages is straight away frustrating. A basic software and a completely free alternatives with great security has a good message automatic backup systems in place but sad to see Wire is still stuck in the stone age wrt this department. Same kind of thing happened to me twice on android and thrice on Desktop since last year. I had backups earlier which saved the day but I'm lost now due to burnt backup drive recently.

Operating system - Android Pie, Arch Linux Wire app build - Always the latest build on both platforms

Edit - Luckily few of my old messages got restored and few other threw an error saying 'Message not received' even after resetting the session.

What is the status on this one? Does this mean that the history is irrecoverable? In which part are the messages stored? My ~/.config/Wire directory is approx. 850 MB big, so, I'd assume that the messages are there, or not?

This happened to me again today. Wire desktop for Windows was working fine, then I closed the app and restarted it, and my entire history was lost.

A bunch of people have continued to report similar occurrences in the old thread #685, which @gregor closed with this explanation:

Running out of memory will cause parts of our database being deleted by the system. Nothing we can prevent unfortunately.

I've been slowing switching over from Wire to Signal... they seem to care more about data integrity. Very sad, since Wire had some attractive advantages like edit and ping.

The main advantage of Wire to me is multi device, It's a double edge sword though as you'll never be notified if you're dealing with the wrong person who stole logins.
