Add support for blocking screenshots from being taken
I am aware that this is not a perfect privacy solution and there are ways around it but it would be useful to have Wire
block the ability to take screenshots.
While the risks / concerns of someone remotely taking a screenshot of Wire
on most peoples devices phone are low there are still users who are high risk, it is a possibility that some malware is setup to take screenshots of open apps. Given the nature of Wire, this could include sensitive information
Additionally with screenshots blocked, switching apps would result in you seeing Wire
is your list of open apps but not seeing the screen it's contents
My suggestion would be to add a toggle allowing users to opt-in to this feature.
Some apps that do that have this option if examples/comparison is needed
- Signal (allows toggling screenshot capture on or off)
- Protonmail (always blocked)
- Aegis (allows toggling screenshot capture on or off)
- KeepassDX (always blocked)
@grrrrr : In Settings -> Options you have a toggle called "Hide screen content". It remves Wire from the task switcher but it also should prevent screenshots, as the two are related.
Thanks @makingthematrix
I found the settings hidden away, It was pekac, I have a black theme and a quite black user icon so it all blended into one so it never dawned on me it existed.... :woman_facepalming:
going to reopening, it does not block screenshots only hides content in the carousel
@grrrrr : Then it means that it might be your phone preventing Wire from disabling screenshots. I remember we had this problem - disabling does not work for some models or before some Android version.
hmm. It seems to work as expected in other apps on Android 10 / Galaxy S9. Wire is the only one not doing as expected.
