Delete contacts

Open TubaOrNotTuba opened this issue 7 years ago • 10 comments

The problem

Wire insists on keeping contacts forever, even if you never intend to communicate with them again. While you can delete or archive the conversation, the contact remains. I know of no other system where one is forced to continue to see a contact if you don't want to see them. The clutter will get old over time. For example, why can't I delete Otto (@ottothebot)? It's just cluttering up the contacts list if it's unused.

Hi, if you don't want to see a contact you can just block them. We have seen several requests to add an option to just "unconnect" contacts, and we will take your feedback into account, too.

p.s.: when you create an issue, you can delete the parts of the template that you are not using :)

@someoneEsle

if you don't want to see a contact you can just block them.

It is better to archive them instead.

Blocked and archived contacts are still displayed in the contacts list, just not on the main screen. The request is to make it possible to delete them completely.

Blocking is not the same as deleting a contact. Period. This is not a work around. This is especially ridiculous since Wire has access to our contact list. Privacy nightmare. It's been a year now and no movement on this issue. How hard would it really be for Wire to implement the ability to delete contacts, from our list and from Wire servers, since you have access to this data? frankly, it seems suspicious that this isn't a priority.

I'd also prefer to "delete" some contacts. It's OK if they write me again and the contact shows up again. (so that's not blocking) But I want those contacts just removed from my list of contacts.

P.S. Wire-Desktop and Wire-Android seem to behave different on blocking. On Android (3.44.877) a blocked contact stays in the list of contacts. On the desktop (3.11.2912 on Linux) a blocked contact also disappears from the contact list and is only unblockable via search (nevertheless that's not like deleting - maybe I just don't want that contact to disturb me and show up in my contact list, but it's OK if he writes to me again).

It is sooo frustrating that I can not delete a contact. It's unbelievable. How can't a messenger have such basic functionality?

One of the main reasons I ditched Wire, deleted my account, and no longer recommend it to friends and customers.

@TubaOrNotTuba I recommended Wire in 2016 when it wasn't actually ready for daily usage. I thought that after a year it will be ready. I tried to use it once in a year since then and every year the picture is the same. UI wasn't changed, it's the same but now it's worse than before with all those ugly screen jumps on main screen, inability to delete a contact, text jumping here and there when moving inside the app, random flashes of a text on a contact line on main screen, small untouchable send button, back button don't hide stickers screen but return to main screen instead.

When I look on the app I think i'm as a developer will not be able to sleep good when such a bad made product used by customers. It's not a norm but a problem.

The idea behind Wire is great but not how the app for Android is made.

It's as bad on both my Android and iPhone. It's almost like their own people don't use it so they never see the problems. I don't care if a GUI is fluffy like imessage, but basic functionality is a must. Wire is DoA IMHO.
