UTF8 characters are not displayed correctly

There seem to be a problem with the UTF8 encoding. Pandoc always creates UTF8 HTML output files. The preview pane doesn't display it correctly. For non-breaking spaces (typed as "\ ") as an example, a  is shown. If I right click in the preview window and select 'Encoding' in the context menu, UTF8 is already selected.

Environment: Eclipe 3.7, pandoc 1.9.2, Windows 7
