Disconnected Network Drive

I have a recurring problem with my mounted sshfs drives show up as disconnected. This usually happens upon restart, but is easily fixed with a script. However, they also become disconnected when my vpn goes up/down, and at random times (time-out?).

I've tried the solution outlined here, but it doesn't seem to work properly.

Any other things I can try?
