Handle missing notesDirectory more gracefully

I have a ~/.corpusrc set up by Ansible with a "notesDirectory" that I haven't created yet; Corpus dies at startup because the getconf NAME_MAX $NOTES_DIRECTORY command errors.

("master" branch; haven't checked this on "next").
