FM demodulate live radio
I am trying to listen the radio in my local area, but it is giving some noise voice. Check the screenshot below. Help me in fixing this issue.
1. Change software settings
- Change the gain of the RTLSDR dongle in the controls tab until you get the highest signal to noise ratio in the "FM output spectrum".
- You can also check the "Baseband spectrum" or the "FM input spectrum" to see if the signal to noise ratio improves there.
- Enable the deemphasis filter and increase it's value until the noise disappears
- This will filters out high frequency noise at the cost of slightly muffled audio
- Alternatively you can also adjust the "L-R" or "L+R" filter cutoffs located above the "deemphasis filter" controls
- By default it is at 15000kHz for the full audio spectrum
- "L-R" is the mono channel and "L+R" is the stereo channel
- Decreasing it will remove high frequency noise from those channels
2. Change physical setup
- See if repositioning or reorientating the antenna helps. Use the fm output spectrum to check when you get the best signal to noise ratio.
- Check to see if the antenna or dongle is near any noise sources (laptop chargers, power supplies).
If you are still getting noisy output check to see if other stations have better audio quality. If you still have questions you can post a picture of the app with the "Baseband spectrum" and "FM output spectrum" visible to see if the problem can be located there.
