Shopping list command

When said the command "What are the items in my shopping list ? " Alexa will get the directives stopAudio , speak and template directives. The speak directive audio will be "There are .... items in your shopping list". But the list item speak directive ( another response ) is getting after 4 seconds. After getting the initial directives am checking the count and processing the same and close the app after this , but the list item response is getting after my application is closed and i am not able to play the same. Is there is any fix for the issue ?
