Doesn't work anymore

Open JoseHidalgo opened this issue 6 years ago • 5 comments

Hi,

  • System OS: Windows 7 SP1 x64
  • Firefox version: latest (61.0.2)
  • Textarea Cache version: latest (3.20.0)

Just doesn't work anymore:

  • When I click on the Textarea Cache icon, nothing happens (so either nothing is saved, or I can't access it anymore)
  • Nothing appears in the contextual menu, even with the option checked under Textarea Cache options
  • If I try to delete the add-on via Firefox add-ons page, it won't uninstall (nothing happens)
  • So I've deleted it manually (via my profile folder : [email protected], then I've reinstalled it from the Firefox add-ons page : nothing changes (same behaviour)

Thanks for your help :)

hmm... I think there might be something wrong in your Firefox profile because add-on doesn't have the permission to prevent you from removing themselves.

Please open a new profile, and install it, and then see weather it works.

I noticed it had not saved anything for weeks. I installed the latest version 3.20 into Fx 63 in a new profile (for Quantum). I just uninstalled it & downloaded & reinstalled - same version. Same result: "No cache here" while I'm typing this. If it won't work on Github, then I'm not sure. But, now I seemed to have found the problem - which is more of a problem than TAC not saving.

It apparently can't save PLAIN TEXT unless every JS script is allowed for Github in uBlocko. I'm really surprised that it needs any js to save the plain text, but maybe w/ the new API in Firefox, that's what's required. Githubapp.com is what was keeping it from saving on other Github.

All the other sites - don't know. I'm not going to allow all 3rd party trackers, if it gets to that. I've been logging into sites & navigating & typing several posts. So I can function perfectly on these sites, by allowing the basic scripts, but apparently TAC needs more than that?

Give me some ideas & I'll give them a try. Thanks.

@bendover22 I just install ublock origin and check the 'not allow web script' (the last item in the photo below)

2018-11-12 19 57 43

But I could still save text at https://wildskyf.github.io/test/textarea.html

Should I check / add any other items to reproduce your problem?

Thanks again! The language on your image is not one I read. :) I assume you mean in uBlock Origin - English equivalent, under Settings, you checked "Disable javascript?

Like you, once logged into Github.com just now, I block all domains showing in NoScript or uBo, and TAC kept saving typed text.
But I assure you, the other day, it didn't save any text on Github until... I allowed "Githubapp.com" in either NoScript or uBo (don't remember which). Once that domain was allowed, TAC immediately saved typed text. That domain isn't showing up today, so can't check if it still causes a problem.

How am I sure TAC wasn't saving text that day on Github? Because I had to refresh the page with the "Add comment" form & it cleared my typed text. I checked TAC - nothing saved, until I allowed Githubapp.com.

But, I rarely have scripts (JS) disabled on the BASE 1st party domains - anywhere IF... I'm logging into my accounts. Login will fail on most sites if java script AND often several other elements aren't allowed to load in Firefox.

3rd party domains (scripts, ads, etc.) & sometimes certain sub-domains of the current site are not automatically enabled (some sites have 5, 10 or more sub-domains - of their base domain).

There are no TAC saved entries older than 11/11/2018 - BECAUSE that's the day I uninstalled / reinstalled TAC 3.20.0. That probably wiped out old TAC entries.

I just tried another site w/ only the base domain allowed in NoScript & uBo had JS blocked for the site and TAC still saved text. That's good.

Part of that seems wrong, if JS is allowed in NS but blocked in uBo, it seems like JS shouldn't be allowed. That's usually how it works for other 3rd party content. If a 3rd party URL or some content appears in both NS & uBo, if it isn't allowed in both of them, then the content doesn't load, AFAIK.

I'll have to watch more carefully when I login / enter text on other sites to see what causes it to not save text.

Checking in - recent observations. It seems to be working generally - the few times I've needed it. I don't know why I even type in most sites' editors - it's asking for a headache. :)

It's possible on some sites, certain scripts must be allowed - if any are blocked. Last week or so I said it didn't save when I was typing here on Github & that was true.

As a test, today after logging in, I disabled all scripts from 1st party Github & no 3rd party scripts or cookies were allowed (if existed). But TAC saved what I typed after disabling all scripts & refreshing the page. Can't explain why it didn't work before - only that it's what I saw at the time.
