Quite often, with a variety of open windows, this feature doesn't work as intended. It often scrolls one of the windows, and I've observed other behavior which escapes me right now (maybe scrolling menus? the whole desktop?).

I suggest instead that a right-click on the taskbar number icon would bring up a vertical menu with the numbers of all current virtual desktops. Click on the number you want, et voilà!
