[FEATURE] act as webserver and stream video

Open Salvakiya opened this issue 7 months ago • 2 comments

As a separate feature from the remote app it would be nice if there was a method to start a webserver of the video's and be able to stream from the webapp. It would almost be a self hosted youtube. If it had this feature it could almost be a lightweight plex/jellyfin. Super easy to start up.

The remote feature is okay but really needs the ability to watch on the device. Otherwise having a separate feature where this functionality is available would be nice.

I've tried getting this to work so many times over the years. The biggest hurdle is that the server that runs on your PC is not https and Apple iPhone will not play videos without it. This means it's a dead end.

There are work-arounds probably, but I haven't had success.

I would be very grateful if anyone has a proof of concept they could share, or describe a way to get things to work. There's also a chance that because it's been many years since I tried last, there are solutions out there, or the browser now just works 🤞

Might just be worth having the functionality there until someone implements an HTTPS server? it should be optional to host it as HTTPS anyway.
