Preferred Video Player not working on Mac - Big Sur M1 MBP

Open monkinwonderland opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

For some reason selecting a preferred video player will not work on a new M1 Mac running Big Sur.

Only the system default will play video from the app, otherwise you can press on a video and it will do nothing if you select a preferred video player.

Any idea how to fix this?

Which player are you trying to add? Currently only VLC is supported on Mac.

Hi Boris, I've tried VLC, but that doesn't seem to work too.

Thank you for checking VLC. I just checked on my mac (Catalina, old Intel chip) - when I set VLC to be the "Preferred video player" in VHA and click on a file, no file opens!

Mac must have changed something again  working with Mac is a pain -- I had to hack my way to get even VLC to work with "preferred video player".

I'll try around to see if I can get it to work again before releasing 3.1.0 (planned for 3rd year anniversary of the app - February 20th). Thank you for reporting the bug!

Cheers Boris, great work with the app, hopefully a fix can be made easily!

@monkinwonderland -- I think when I was checking on the Mac I had the non-Mac code running (the toggle I have in my code that makes the close buttons look like Mac or Windows also affects whether VLC path gets rewritten). Basically -- I tested again today: VHA works on my Mac with VLC correctly ✅

But I will try to get a hold of the M1 Mac this year sometime and figure out what the problem there is 🤞
