jup, that's what i did. i used virtual box and ubuntu. Compiling succeeded but the resulting swf didn't start the webcam. i did use this fork now: https://github.com/nedforce/jQuery-webcam (see https://github.com/infusion/jQuery-webcam/issues/1...
