Closing wezterm kills tmux window with nothing running

I am encountering the bug described in #5101.

Specifically: a tmux window is killed if there's nothing running and its the active window when wezterm exits (https://github.com/wez/wezterm/issues/5101#issuecomment-2005589528).

The issue was closed without coming up with a solution or workaround.

Describe the solution you'd like

A fix for this bug or way to disable the behavior if it is intended.

Let me close wezterm without killing my tmux window.
