Additional context I'd like to receive the update notifications, but I'd also like to be able to suppress the notice once I've seen them. Sometimes I wait several days before performing system updates, so I'm forced to see the new version notice every time I open a new terminal window until I decide to update.

Furthermore, the package may not be updated in the repositories right away, so short of disabling update checks all together, there's no way to get rid of the update message until the maintainers update the package.
