Which Wayland compositor are you using? Please also share information about your graphics drivers by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-L in wezterm and copying and pasting that information here.
Can you start wezterm with WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 set in the environment, reproduce this, and share the logs? That may help to pinpoint what is happening at the wayland level.
