Fullstack Javascript, what stack do I choose?

I was thinking about learning the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) to build applications but its kinda overwhelming learning all that stuff at once, especially with all the different things that comes with React such as Redux,Flux,Floppetyflapp etc So since I wanna start building stuff asap since I have a couple of (pretty simple) ideas, I was thinking to instead pick up jquery for the front end (I already have a good understanding of plain javascript after your JS30 challenge ).. is this a good idea or am I shooting myself in the foot looking longterm?
