Add an Open Source backend

Open webmaven opened this issue 10 years ago • 4 comments

Hackpad is (as far as I know) proprietary software. Can HtH be made to use a self hosted or public open source backend like Etherpad-Lite or something similar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaborative_real-time_editor?

That is great idea to use maybe another open source writing programs. I get a lot of great critiques about how HtH is not standalone that people who don't use hackpad couldn't understand what HtH does. Making a backend that allow user to create account, login, create new writing, and publish new articles is definitely next move. This is a POC project I put out there to receive early feedback. It will be challenging though, as I am not a backend programmer. Need to know learn new stuff!

I meant use an existing backend that is similar to Hackpad in some respects. Etherpad-Lite seems like it might fit the bill as it is written in JS and has an API, but there are other potential choices.

I get what you mean. It will be long term goal of mine. Etherpad-Lite looks nice, and I have looked up the link you sent me, togetherJS is also really useful.

@wentin, it looks like nothing has been done since Feb '15. Is this project dead? :skull:
