Support for the New raspberry pi 2 model B

Open v1n2e7t opened this issue 10 years ago • 8 comments

The new raspberry pi is faster and has more ram, which should allow for faster functionality and such. Also the new Pi doesn't have the yellow RCA port, so does the software support alternatives to an RCA screen?

The new one looks like quite the trooper.

The software should work on the new Pi (or old one) using the HDMI or USB port.

The only issue you may run into is a cost increase for the hardware. Curently, I've been using LCDs meant to display rear-view camera feeds in cars. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Rearview-Monitor-screen-Backup-Camera/dp/B005CFLMNC/

And unfortunately, all of the ones I have seen use RCA, or are vastly more expensive.

So some ideas for the display:

  • get a HDMI or USB display
  • get a RCA <-> HDMI converter

I was planning on testing with an old computer monitor HDMI, then eventually getting one of those screens with a converter. I just wanted to make sure it would work with HDMI

I have few new Raspberry B+ I like to try this out.

Do I need a specific Raspberry OS version?

and what usb keypad do you recommend?

I've only tested it out with Raspbian. It could really support any linux distro, though, as long as all of the dependencies are installed. I would start with Raspbian, though, since the README is more geared toward that.

Any usb numpad should do, including the numpad on a full keyboard, if you have that lying around. I think I used this one: www.amazon.com/Generic-Numeric-Keyboard-Notebook-Computer/dp/B007DVM39A/

I have few Raspberry B+, if I follow the directions on this project, would I need a B version? Since the B+ only has a HDMI and no RCA out.

Also the power supply soldering does seem very clear, can you elaborate? is there a diagram and why do you need a stepdown converter? is that to combine the power supply? or is specific to the RCA monitor?

Quick Update:

I found a nice Breadboard Power Supply 5V/3.3V can I use this as an alternative?

I still would need to know how all those wires relate... 00114-05
