Request: Option to completely block YouTube Shorts from all pages
Hello, I’m using this YouTube app on my smart TV, and I’d like to ask if it’s possible to completely block or hide YouTube Shorts from appearing anywhere in the interface.
In my country, a lot of Shorts content is uneducational and often misleading. My young nephews watch Shorts all the time at home, and I’m very concerned about the kind of content they are being exposed to.
Even though I’ve already installed YouTube Kids, they refuse to use it because they are already too addicted to Shorts.
I hope there is (or could be) an option to completely disable or hide Shorts, either via settings or configuration, to help create a healthier media environment at home.
Is this technically feasible?
Thank you so much for your work on this project!
Same here, would love see that as an option!
This IS possible I know for a fact because I never see shorts videos anymore on youtube on my smartTV (thank god). Here's what I did, I'm sure there are other solutions to get the same result, but I'll just explain what I did and you can go from there yourself.
Step 1. On a computer, not a phone, not a tablet, not a SmartTV, but a proper old school computer be it a laptop or a desktop computer with a proper fully functioning browser installed, go to the YouTube website logged in as whatever user you want to use on the SmartTV later on. When the rows of suggested videos pop up you will see they are arranged in catagories like Shorts | News | Movies | Playables etc. In the top right corner of all those categories there is an elipse … for configuration settings menu. Note that this elipse menu ONLY appears on the desktop display of youtube and no other, so if you ignored my first instruction to load youtube only on a proper computer, then that's why you're not seeing the … elipse.
Click the elipse and selected whatever option is there that roughly translates to 'Stop showing me this crap'. It might be something like 'Show fewer' or 'Not interested' or Show less' or 'Stop seeing' or something like that. Whatever it is, click it.
Step 2. Go to this user's fork of the official releases of YTAF and install the last version he created numbered v0.4.8 and enable ALL the options in the green button option menu on the screen of your LG smartTV.
Now you will not see Shorts videos again.
