Too many files in the root directory of this repository

The list of files in the root directory of this repository is just too long and confusing. It's a mixture of Go files, Protobuf build files, Node.js files etc. We should rather group files by domain, i.e. frontend, backend, build etc.

I don't see anything that would have changed since the issue was created.
