Flycheck now supports this. https://github.com/flycheck/flycheck/pull/1743. Personally I also use flycheck-highlighting-mode set to lines when using this package.

oh wow, someone is actually using this very unpolished package :exploding_head: :smile: :+1:

i didn't expect that since it's quite rough around the edges and i didn't publish it to melpa yet because it has some usability issues.
