You can move the contents of your setup.py script to setup.cfg and you’ll be able to use shortcuts to get version from file and to use a file as long description (with proper reST / markdown detection for PyPI) https://setuptools.readthedocs.io/en/latest/setuptools.html#configuring-setup-using-setup-cfg-files
