Wazuh/Opensearch Strings Customization in Navigation Bar for Wazuh Dashboard

Open romeohorizon7 opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

Describe the solution you'd like Customization of the strings like opensearch dashboards, opensearch plugins and wazuh in the navigation bar as well as in the urls and other web pages for wazuh-opensearch_dashboard & wazuh-kibana is requested.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  1. A shell script in which developer or user can provide custom strings to appear on the naviagtion bar as well as in urls and in other web-pages.
  2. Instead of changes in a separate shell script, it could be done through the configuration file just like opensearch-dashboard allows custom branding for the logos.

Additional context This will provide a more customizable wazuh-dashboard to users and specially students and developers who use wazuh as proof of concept for testing new features.

Hi @romeohorizon7,

Thank you for the feature request.

The current Wazuh dashboard is based on a distribution of Open Search Dashboards. This has some plugins of Open Search Dashboards, some modifications related to the branding, and includes the Wazuh plugin.

The plugin URL is derivate from the plugin ID, which is a value predefined in the source code of the plugin. Any change in the plugin URL could affect some links or redirections of other plugins or itself, so the changes to support your suggestion are not trivial. As I commented before, we apply some changes to the default Open Search distribution, but we don't work in the built-in Open Search Dashboards plugins.

On the hand, the plugin name or category that it belongs, it is a predefined value.

To support this feature request, we would have to work on the white labeling of the Wazuh dashboard and the Wazuh plugin. Currently, it is not planned for short or medium-term. We take in mind that the white labeling could be interesting for some users, but the customization of the plugin URLs is something we maybe could not see as required when we think about this feature. Thank you for the suggestion!

The solution more user-friendly would the option 2 you commented: let the users customize the plugin names and URLs if possible using the Wazuh dashboard configuration file. It is something we would have to research if it is viable.
