Using the HD map data for scene creation

Hi all, Thanks for the amazing dataset. I want to make use of Waymo open dataset to create some 3D scenes of LA,USA. To do so I want to make use of HD maps provided in the dataset. I have been using OSM maps for creating the scenes, but the roads are messy. Hence, I would like to know if there is any method to make use of the Waymo HD maps data and create the scene information in standard formats like OpenDrive. Or is there any method to export this information into Unreal Engine or CARLA or any software which can help me to create my own scenarios and simulate the AV at my will.

Eagerly waiting for some useful information.

We don't currently have any tools do export the map data to other formats. I think you would need to write a conversion utility. I am not aware of any third party tools for this, but you may want to check before implementing something. If you have any questions about the map format itself we can help with any questions.

@scott-ettinger Thank you for the reply. I have a question, probably not related to the format of the map.

Is it possible to use the HD maps you have created to create our own scenarios? Like place a vehicle at some location on the map based on GPS and execute some maneuvers to test the path planning algorithm of our car? Any documentation regarding this to use the API?

We currently do not provide a way to map GPS locations to the dataset so this may not be possible if you need that mapping.

@saitejeswar1 Have you found a way to export the map data? I'm facing a similar issue and would like to use lanelet2 maps, which, theoretically, can be generated from OpenDRIVE data.

I've also attempted to convert the map data myself, but I'm encountering issues. Lanelet2 requires lane boundaries for each lanelet, but it seems that certain elements like bike lanes don't have explicit lane boundaries, even when there are adjacent road edges or similar features (as seen in scenario 19a486cd29abd7a7, for example).

@dlengerer Hi, I am sorry, I haven't found any way yet. I will write here if I find something.
