Feature Request: Help M1 Macs get 4K120 support with Active DisplayPort/HDMI converters
Thread for context is here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-mini-4k-120hz.2267035/page-18
You can easily get 4K120 on a compatible DisplayPort display, but even with an active DisplayPort to HDMI2.1 adapter (such as this, or this), HDMI displays are limited to 4K60, even if the display supports a 4K120 input.
Well, this is a tough one. I don't think this will be possible as with M1 macs the options are even more limited than Intel. On Intel at least you can override the EDID but on M1 afaik it is not possible, so we can't even add simple custom timings - a workaround for the lack of HDMI 120Hz mode is a step beyond that. The thread is super interesting tough! :)
If there is any supposed fix, I can add the functionality to BetterDummy (automating it etc) but I don't have the right hardware to test or investigate at the moment. A fix would be great for 120Hz OLED TV users. I'll tag this as help wanted and we'll see if there is any breakthrough.
