Configuration import/export features
Thank you for the great software!
I would like the features to import and export dummy displays and various settings.
Best regards,
Good idea, it is certainly possible but some settings are tied to real display hardware identifiers which could be difficult to transfer among macs. Import/export is feasible for local configurations for real displays and dummies.
@waydabber
Thank you for your response.
I understand. Personally, I am considering using this feature as a means of recovery in case I accidentally delete settings or initialize the OS.
All right. Meanwhile you can simply save the settings file for backup reasons. It's located under your user's Library/Preferences folder and it is called me.waydabber.BetterDummy.
Thank you for the advice.
I see, I will try it.
Sorry to post on this "ancient" thread. Just met such issue and thinking this feature can be a great addition to BD.
I think it would be helpful to allow export/backup the BD configuration for a specific monitor, or even previously connected display. I just got my monitor replaced and both macOS and BD (obviously) recognised the monitor as a new display, and reset all configurations despite its the same model. This behaviour also presents on Dell monitors with multiple ports, as each port carries its own identifier (even between two DP ports on the same monitor, for example). Setting up the perfect DDC/DI combinations (like volume curve ane input source customisation) can be time consuming and may even need to start from scratch if no comparison to the preivous setting.
Thank you!
Hi there,
you can export the configuration by entering:
defaults export pro.betterdisplay.BetterDisplay ~/Desktop/betterdisplay.plist
Once the configuration is exported, you need to edit the identifiers of the display to match the new display. Find the keys that contain the storedIdentifiers@Display string.
For more info: https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay/wiki/Export-and-import-app-settings
You can import an exported configuration using defaults import.
Hope this helps!
Hope this helps!
That's very helpful. Thank you! I was using similar method (but didn't aware of the wiki article) to somewhat resolve the issue, but still looking forward to a GUI option in the long run when possible. Cheers
