Force MBP display to fixed 120Hz
AFR from discord:
Good afternoon! Please tell me, I can’t find information, can I fix the display refresh rate on macbook pro 14 at 120HZ? I don't like how ProMotion works. I see that I have an average frame rate of around 90 frames, I'm used to a fixed frequency on my external monitor and would like to see the same thing on a laptop, even to the detriment of autonomy). When switching between desktops, the drop in frames is very clearly visible, through istatmenu you can look and see that there are no 120 frames, they appear only if you quickly switch. I do not know how to explain(When I do this on my external monitor, there are no drawdowns.
if you can implement this for example in the next beta, I will be very grateful, I will give you timely feedback

What I could do is to add a small, invisible pixel an change its contents at 120Hz to force the display to run at 120Hz. However if the reason for 90fps is that the system can't keep up with 120fps for some reason, all this will do is create judder.
@waydabber i'd like to raise this again; could this be added as an experimental feature so we could see what the actual battery impact turns out to be
I am very much hoping for a feature in this app to force constant 120hz frame rate. I am surprised that my Macbook Pro M4Pro in High Power energy mode does not just switch to constant 120hz and the frame rate is simply too low when I make "unexpected" fast moves across windows.
Sadly the pixel flipping technique won't force 120Hz for low power mode. In this mode apps still detect the display as 120Hz, it's a near hardware level implementation that limits the output at 60Hz and so far there is no known way to work that around.
