I think this repo is no longer maintained, I have been waiting for feedback for more that five years... and counting.

It is also python based, easy to use, and gives you access to the Crosswire Scripture Modules as an API, see in more on the API here: https://getbible.net/docs

I forked this REPO like years ago, and improved it: https://github.com/getbible/v2_builder/blob/staging/src/sword_to_json.py

It now build the API for getBible, which is used by the librarian script.
