Unusable with TB 68

Open jfcayron opened this issue 5 years ago • 16 comments

Since we updated to Thunderbird 68.3.1, the addon shows incompatible. Any plans to release v1.4?

Maybe we can help raise some donations as an incentive?

1.4 rc1 works for me after update.

Here (not so obvious but worked) steps to fix v68 compatibility issue:

  • Download gmailui-1.4-tb.xpi
  • (optionally) You may patch css to avoid 2 Expression Searches in a single box issue. Just patch skin\overlay.css as proposed here. Hint: you can use vim to edit skin\overlay.css inside of gmailui-1.4-tb.xpi without renaming it
  • Uninstall (or disable) extension in TB
  • Install gmailui-1.4-tb.xpi using Install Add-on From File command

p.s. thanks @wangvisual for great extension

Thanks for providing a fix for the box issue. however the issue with the extensions requiring disable/enable then TB restart to function properly still exists!

Thanks for the great extension wangvisual! It makes the whole difference for searching in TB.

I did not get it to work with the gmailui-1.4.tb.xpi in TB 68.4.1 (32-bit). I wish there is a new release soon.

Thanks for this perfect search extension wangvisual! gmailui-1.4-tb.xpi is not compatible with TB 68.4.1 (64-bit) It would be wonderful if there could be a new update. Thanks a lot

I am more than happy to support this. I have already donated USD 25...and I would give more in exchange for having Expression Search back in action.

I installed this one, so i can restart by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Z

Not a solution, but helps

I don't seem to be able to get it working at all. I've tried others' suggestions but the search UI seems to hang, produce no results, or no filter is applied. I'm on v68.5.0 (64-bit), for reference, but it was the same deal with earlier v68 builds.

I have joined GitHub solely to join in asking @wangvisual to please update this add-on. I will donate. Thank you. I used it several times a day, in many ways, and I really miss it.

All those offers to contribute are nice, but did @wangvisual ever respond in the month and a half since we started this thread? I did not see anything.

Thank you for this fix!

This worked also for me until I've updated TB to 68.5.0. After that there was no reaction from the Add-on.

To make it work again:

  1. Disable the Add-on
  2. ~~Restart~~ ~~TB~~ //not needed
  3. Enable the Add-on again
  4. Restart TB again

Thanks @wangvisual. Makes TB useable again.

Thanks a lot, it helped me a couple of months... Unfortunately, I've just seen today, with version 68.10.0, that Thunderbird deactivated it with no "activate" button :-( image

[Edit] I've just seen https://github.com/wangvisual/expression-search/issues/92 , I'll try to modify the manifest.json and maybe delete this comment.

The best solution will be a native TB support, please add your vote here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=538821
