Android connection issues...the left hand giveth, the right hand taketh away
Server installed using softaculous Using web browser, bookmarklet, all is good. Have 4 articles stored. Great! On android tablet (tab S8) using android app: I run connection wizard/basic config/select wallabag provider using "other" and input URL (including web on the end), name, password, then press "connect" Testing...getting API...testing API access. App doesn't complain, so I figure that's done and press "back". Takes me back to select Walla provider screen, so I use left arrow at top of screen Message appears "Parameters changed. Recommended to perform connection test" Now I get error "API access test failed...blah blah..OAuth2 authentication required" OK, seen this about 20 times now...I reckon I know where to go, but no idea why. Go to the http basic authenication screen...WTF, it's still filled in from the last 10 round in circles. On the way back thru the screens to home screen, I come to connection screen. All details filled in, including Client ID and Client secret from past efforts What the hell, give "autofill another tap. Testing...getting API...testing API access. It doesn't complain. So I continue back buttoning to home screen. Uh oh ... Message: Parameters changed..blah blah ...recommended to perform a connection test. WTF_2. Didn't I just come from there. I'll ignore it, so I press "not now". Ah, I'm back at the home screen, but it's blank. Swipe down should fix that. "Please configure the app before syncing" But I've looked at EVERY setting, not just those in this rant. BTW on tablet, app worked ok for wallabag.it, but after a few days, wouldn't show all articles same experience on my android phone (s22ultra). Can access wallabag on both thru a browser
After you finish the connection wizard, it should close itself and go to the start screen. Please be patient and do not go back.
Thanks for replying. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, after the connection wizard, the app runs thru the testing, getting, testing stages, and then I'm left in the "basic config" screen. I left it in this state for 5+ minutes -went and played with my 3 year old
- and there's no sign of it closing. Have used the web browser interface this morning, which performed flawlessly and is GREAT btw.

Have you tried to clean all app data via Android settings? Sorry, I have no better idea at the moment.
I just did the connection wizard. For me it was like a minute after the connection wizard finally went to the start view and downloaded all articles automatically. In past it was not that long, only a couple of seconds. Maybe it has to do with the recent wallabag server updates, that it lasts that long.
I tried clearing all storage yesterday. Will try that again AND be more patient. Hey, no need for "sorry" - I appreciate what you've created which is useful to lots of people, plus you giving your time to even respond to me. Thanks Tony

I had got app to work using wallabag.it (Tried this after no success with self hosted). That worked, but much more interested in self hosting. Anyway, today I tried to delete that account and got this multiple times: Oops! An Error Occurred The server returned a "405 Method Not Allowed". Something is broken. Please let us know what you were doing when this error occurred. We will fix it as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. I was pressing the delete account button. Reason for trying to delete the account: Tried this, this morning: Used my own server address and creds. After connect, waited patiently for screen to change back to home. It didn't. Manually went back and ignored message. Thought I'd try adding a url to see what happened. It worked, but I'm sure it reverted to wallabag.it (sounds implausible to me, but what do I know) Hence trying to delete the wallabag.it account to eliminate any possibility of that Next step will be to remove self hosted and reinstall, and try again from the start
When self-hosting, be sure to host wallabag at a subdomain, e.g. https://mywallabag.example.com and not in a subfolder. Only expose the /web folder to that domain. Any subfolders are not supported by wallabag server, e.g. https://github.com/wallabag/wallabag/issues/4214 or https://github.com/wallabag/wallabag/issues/4938.
In past we have also seen some setups with traefik which were not configured properly, e.g. there was a redirect from https to http. In case you self-host, checking your wallabag server and http server logs is very helpful if you encounter any issues. And maybe this issue is already known here or at wallabag server.
Thanks Strubbl. I deleted existing server, re-installed at w***.c***ts.com
Using qr code in connection wizard gives url w***.c***ts.com/web , correct user name Now I get: Connection test failed Unknown error: java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: Trust anchor for certification path not found. I assume an error at server end, so I'm off to scour cpanel to see if I can find any relevant setting. Had such high hopes for subdomain fixing my problem - that'll teach me!

Unknown error: java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: Trust anchor for certification path not found. sounds like your TLS certificate cannot be validated by Android. Which TLS certificate provider do you use? If you can try a different one, e.g. Lets Encrypt, maybe that helps.
OK, sounds like I flick this to support at my hosting service. Thanks again Tony

Have added a cert from Lets Encrypt. Now at least the IOS app doesn't throw an error...just behaves like the android app and doesn't show any entries, nor allows adding urls
