Is this project still alive? (yes)
I wanted to post an update here in terms of what the status of this project is (since that’s been an understandably common question here). Over the last several years I have not been able to give this project the attention it needs (full time job + full time parenting) -- which has been disheartening to say the least, since there are so many folks using this project and interested in contributing to the project. I’ve had a lot of questions about adding someone else as a maintainer, and the short answer is in the past I haven’t had the time to really vet anyone let alone setup governance around this. At the same time I also do not want to see this project die on the vine.
I want to let folks know what to expect moving forward:
- I’ll be working on this repo weekly now --the main goal in the near future is to triage what issues there are today and get regular releases going again
- From a planning perspective I want to get a roadmap established that shows really where this tool is going
- Setting up governance here and getting external maintainers here is a must, expect to see this soon
Thank you to everyone that has been working to get fixes and features into forks and sorry to anyone who has felt frustration around the lack of response in this project.
great, thanks for your efforts, hope to see new regular dive releases
Thanks for picking the torch back up Alex :)
To start with, you'll probably want to take a look at the PRs merged into Joschi's fork
Know that if ever needed in the future, we have a good community willing to help maintain this project
Yay, awesome news! 🥳
If you're interested, I can provide a PR which basically sums up the changes in the aforementioned fork minus the change of the module name.
This should be fairly straight forward since there were no new commits to the main branch of this repository since forking.
Overview of the changes (89 commits right now): https://github.com/wagoodman/dive/compare/main...joschi:dive:main
@wagoodman Let me know if I can help you with re-integrating the fork, if needed.
That would be quite helpful @joschi , thank you! I'm in the process of reading through and organizing issues and correlating to open prs. I imagine there will be lots of overlap.
@wagoodman Thanks for the important work you are doing here! And thanks @joschi for working on the fixes I needed so badly.
YEZZZZZZ!
Can we get a fresh release with the latest fixed, please? :)
indeed @black-snow -- my goal is to try and get a release out today 🤞
Wonderful to hear a release is coming! I can make a PR to nixpkgs when that's out!
From the time since I reported #507, I've happily been using dive with NixOS by patching #511 into the derivation - and with a fresh release I can upstream that back into the nixpkgs distribution of dive
@wagoodman I'm happy if you want to pull in the Docker/build related changes from my fork.
Let me know.
Docker/build related changes from my fork.
Could you provide more context? I didn't see anything related to such at the fork.
