Abandoned?

Hey wade! I found you as I recently joined Sugar Labs and was looking up the history... this is a cool project! Why did you abandon it - did you give up on the dream of a VR desktop?

He made it for the vr jam. I have been planning on working on it on and off but have not yet found the time or motivation.

Thanks Dave, glad to hear you joined Sugar LAbs!

As Anton says I made it for the VR jam- I have hopes of developing it further someday (even registered shellspace.org) but am waiting for higher res screens to make the text-centric experience more comfortable, and I too have been distracted by other projects.

HTC vive would be nice ;) Have anyone tested a Web based remote desktop in the Internet vr app?

I tried Samsung Internet on Gear VR combined with web based terminals, but it refuses to act normally with a bluetooth keyboard connected. It always displays a keyboard on top if I remember correctly.

Has anyone been able to compile shellspace with a recent SDK?

I haven't tried, but there may be issues with the fact that I submitted precompiled binaries for V8 and other dependencies, because compiling them was (at the time) far too complex to recommend.

If you give it a try and encounter errors, please let me know what they are, I'd be happy to try to resurrect the build on a weekend sometime.

I had a go on an oculus and indeed the resolution was too low. Waiting for magic leap ;)

Perhaps the resolution is too low for a desktop, but I'd love to see an xterm with effects like https://github.com/Swordfish90/cool-retro-term inside the GearVR. It looks like some of the libraries have been renamed and the headers reorganized in recent SDKs, but I'll see if I can get anywhere.
