why does this require 5 approvals? it is just a resquash of a previous Tier 2 pull request.

Since there is no way to set the number of approvals based on individual PRs, only by repo, it's set to the maximum required for all PRs on this repo.

It will be manually merged after it reaches the limit for Tier 2 (3 approvals).

Hi @Noc2 , so when will this be reviewed? any further comments?

salmanmarvasti avatar Aug 28 '22 01:08 salmanmarvasti

This is creation of a new pallet that extends functionality of off chain worker. I will clarify that in the milestones

Sorry for the late response and thanks for the new PR. But the specification of Documentation for example still links to a notion document, see my previous comment: #1046 (review) https://github.com/w3f/Grants-Program/pull/1046#pullrequestreview-1080587600 and I want to mention again, that we don’t support the deployment of existing pallets, etc. via our grants program. We only support the development of new open source software via grants. See my previous comments: #1046 (review) https://github.com/w3f/Grants-Program/pull/1046#pullrequestreview-1041473262 and #1046 (review) https://github.com/w3f/Grants-Program/pull/1046#pullrequestreview-1072317806 For example if you simply use the identity pallet, it’s not something that we would support.

Can more than one person comment? I am not sure what is unclear about the milestone. Another way of putting it is we want to build a database like API on top of the offchain worker storage API. we recently got Google Cloud funding and we may goto rival blockchain network if you are unwilling to fund.

Thanks for reading.

@salmanmarvasti sorry for the delay here. @Noc2 is currently on leave and will return in 2 weeks. I didn't find the time yet to take a closer look at your grant application, but I've added it to my TODO list. I'm going to reply as soon as possible.

takahser avatar Sep 14 '22 11:09 takahser

Yeah i will update, been busy on other tasks. I think confusion is because originally we weren't aware of all the existing features of Substrate.

I still agree with Seraya that the application needs more details. Do you plan to update it? Otherwise, I would close the application in the coming days, because your last PR said “final request for comment”.

@salmanmarvasti are you still planning to update this application? It's been 20d since I requested changes and I haven't seen any progress on it so far. Otherwise we're going to close it soon.

I have made some updates. Sorry for the 20 day delay things have been hectic.

salmanmarvasti avatar Oct 07 '22 04:10 salmanmarvasti

Hey @salmanmarvasti. There are still a couple of unaddressed questions and comments from @takahser. Could you address these before we continue with the review?

I believe I have now, Can you highlight any you think I missed?

@takahser i have addressed all the questions, what is left? We are applying to two other blockchain the first one that funds our blockchain customisation will be the one our own app uses.

salmanmarvasti avatar Nov 03 '22 17:11 salmanmarvasti

@salmanmarvasti thanks for the updates, I marked it as ready for review. Personally, I'm not going to accept it, since it didn't convince me, for various reasons:

  • lack of clarity
  • on some deliveries, I'm not clear on the value it'd add to the ecosystem (e.g. "New parachain with smart contract facility through creation of a dedicated Pallet", pallets that support smart contracts already exist as part of FRAME)

Feel free to wait for other committee members to take a look though, as they might have a different take on this.

takahser avatar Nov 10 '22 13:11 takahser

@takahser thanks for your comments. It boils down to this 👍 The question you are asking is valid but only if we were proposing a simple limited feature like bringing Ethereum based ZKP contracts to Substrate.

We are asking for limited funding for phase 1 implementation of a storage network specialised for health data om Substrate network using the off chain worker storage api as building block. We cannot give you exact details without actually implementing this prototype as the details depends on the blockchain.

If you think this provides no value for Polkadot in extending ease of use case and potentially providing a platform to launch a token that can under pin a health or related storage network to be traded for Dot then we have nothing further to discuss.

Thanks dr S. MARVASTI

salmanmarvasti avatar Nov 11 '22 18:11 salmanmarvasti

From our perspective building a health app that stored data directly on a dedicated subtrate blockchain nodes rather than via ipfs can contribute much more to the perceived value of DOT than to the immediate value of our startup.

  • Currently we store the data on a distributed cloud storage which we pay (or pay via startup credits).
  • Paying for storage could be done via tokens
  • Ease of use for the intended application would make the substrate chain much more valueable for this application than filecoin.
  • For phase II
  • Payment could be via tokens that are traded against dot and no one company would own the data but still provide reliable data. Furthermore it would not be a single task chain like FileCOIn.

Currently our data is stored via hashes on cloud e.g. https://marvsai.com:8000/user_files/2c9dc778-6907-11ed-ae67-0242ac110002/IMG_20221120_112944.jpg

you will not be able to load this as you dont have login details but we can include screen shots if your interested.

salmanmarvasti avatar Nov 22 '22 13:11 salmanmarvasti

@salmanmarvasti thanks for the additional information, but since your proposal has now been in the review state for 2 weeks with no approvals or further comments from other members of the committee, I'll go ahead and close it. This application may not have succeeded in swaying the committee, but don't be discouraged—you're always welcome to apply again with another project, or you can check out other sources of funding in the ecosystem.

It doesn't seem Dot is interested in no speculative use of Blockchain
