Add Arabic Half-Sharp Symbol

Open Pinary-Pi opened this issue 6 months ago • 3 comments

It would be nice if the Arabic half-sharp symbol were added. I see that there already is one, but it appears to be a copy of the one commonly used in Western music. There is another one that is used that has two vertical lines and one horizontal line rather than two horizontal lines and one vertical line.

Half-sharp and half-flat symbols were defined I believe for the first time at the 1932 Cairo Arabic Music Congress where they decided to use a 24-TET system to notate their music.

Here's another example I found on the internet.

Here's one from a video.

Thanks for this. I wonder whether this appearance should be considered an alternative appearance for U+ED35 accidentalQuarterToneSharpArabic, or whether it is a distinct symbol?

What's the functional difference between the two?

The difference: if the two symbols mean the exact same thing then they should be considered alternate expressions/glyphs of the same character. That way any software that can work with one symbol can work with the other. (I think that this is the correct interpretation)

If they have different meanings, then they should be considered different characters.
