Vertical position of lute tablature fret glyphs

I'm missing some documentation/implementation notes on tablature fret glyphs for the lute ranges. I would expect to position them like normal noteheads on a line, but as they all sit on the font baseline, they appear above the fret line. This is somewhat connected to #205.

That's as expected, as lute tablature is normally written in the spaces between the lines, rather than on the lines.

This may be correct for French tabulator, but is not in general for German, Italian and Spanish.

Although I've seen German Tablature with letters between lines, it is more common to have them on line as it seems (some random examples):

It is definitely not true for number based tablatures from Spain and Italy:
