Align DPV with CRDM AI concepts
The CRDM AI taxonomy is an ongoing effort by the EU Publications Office to create a taxonomy of AI concepts for representing work within the EU Commission. These contain three taxonomies, which should be aligned with DPV, e.g. by adding missing concepts, and for reference/sources:
- AI Approaches which are like Capabilities in DPV's AI, but which contains applications like Chatbot and categories like GenAI and LLM which are model separately as categories of the technology itself;
- AI Systems which are categories of AI systems of which DPV's AI only has GPAI system; and
- ML which contains what is part of DPV's AI Techniques.
Update SEP-20: updated link - the CRDM is now published (was a proposal before)
First pass at mapping here: DPV AI Google Sheet (ai-crdm tab). There are some concepts which should clearly be added, and others that need discussions for what should be the parent etc. There are also questions as to whether we should model concepts like EdgeAI and ReasoningSystem which don't describe categories of AI systems themselves and therefore can lead to infinite variations.
There was also this InnoGraph AI Taxonomy shared in the same context based on extracted concepts and hierarchies from wikipedia.
I have reviewed the CRDM concepts and added my comments on the DPV AI spreadsheet. Note that the link to the CRDM taxonomy does not work anymore.
The taxonomy no longer appears in Showvoc but is published in the EU Voc pages (which are more official), but the IRIs used are still giving a 404. I have reported this on the website. Below are the links to the AI taxonomy dataset and my extracted RDF concepts from it:

The updated / new version of the taxonomy is up at https://showvoc.op.europa.eu/#/datasets/AI_Taxonomy/data The publications office has informed me that the redirections from IRIs to resource pages have not yet been set up and are WIP.
