fix(reactivity): optimized conditional check for root-level property traversal logic in reactiveGetter

Open Makoq opened this issue 6 months ago • 2 comments

Change: Refactored the condition:

if (isShallow(source) || deep === false || deep === 0) to: if (isShallow(source) || !deep)

Why?

1. Equivalent Logic, Cleaner Code

  • The original check (deep === false || deep === 0) explicitly tests for two falsy values.

  • !deep implicitly covers all falsy cases (false, 0, null, undefined, NaN, ''), reducing redundancy while preserving intent.

2.Improved Robustness

  • Explicit checks risk missing edge cases (e.g., deep is null or undefined).

  • The new version future-proofs the logic by handling all falsy values uniformly.

3.Readability & Best Practices

  • Aligns with JavaScript idioms (leveraging type coercion for concise checks).

  • Reduces cognitive load—clearly expresses "skip if deep is falsy."

Impact Analysis:

  • Behavior:

    • Fully backward-compatible with existing usage (false and 0 still work).

    • If the original code relied on null/undefined being treated differently, this change might affect behavior.

    • (Assumed intent: falsy values should uniformly bypass deep cloning.)

  • Performance:

    • Slightly faster (one implicit check vs. two explicit comparisons).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Refactor
    • Improved internal logic for handling deep watching of reactive sources, ensuring more consistent behavior when the deep option is falsy. No changes to user-facing features or APIs.

Walkthrough

A condition in the reactiveGetter function within the watch module was simplified. The check for the deep option now uses a single falsy check instead of explicitly comparing against false or 0, altering the control flow for how deeply reactive sources are traversed when watched.

Changes

File(s) Change Summary
packages/reactivity/src/watch.ts Simplified the deep option check in reactiveGetter, affecting traversal depth for watched sources.

Sequence Diagram(s)

sequenceDiagram
    participant User
    participant Watcher
    participant Source

    User->>Watcher: Initiate watch with source and deep option
    Watcher->>Source: Check if deep option is falsy (!deep)
    alt deep is falsy
        Watcher->>Source: Traverse only root-level properties
    else deep is truthy
        Watcher->>Source: Traverse all nested properties
    end

Poem

A tweak to how we watch and see,
Deep or shallow, now checked simply—
No need for false or zero’s dance,
Just one swift check, a lighter stance.
The code hops on, a little less steep,
Traversing roots or diving deep!

how is this faster? do you have some benchmarks? won't js now try to coerce this to a falsy value first because of boolean negation?

Thanks for the PR, but this was intentional.
