Removing google from options has no effect

I tried to remove google from the search engines TMN calls, but found that this seems to have no effect. TMN will still try to connect to google. Ubuntu 16.04, TMN 10.4, Firefox 62.0.

I found today that removing google from the Brave version was working, with the exception that it seemed to query google prior to moving to another engine I'd chosen (possibly in order to locate the other engines?)
